Everytime I travel abroad, it's a little frustrating to have to go back to Japan when I get used to speaking in English. I thought I could speak at the necessary level, but during my trip in August, I was keenly aware of the need to improve my English conversation skills.
Serbia is a pro-Japanese country. People's learning of Japanese culture is outstanding. Of course, most people are familiar with Japanese anime and manga. Not only that, there are many people who are interested in the religious views of Japanese people, probably because of the history of religious conflict.
During my previous stay, when we visit a monastery a nun showed us a book called "HAGAKURE" and said she was studying Japanese spirituality. While I was staying at "Cooks in Residence" this time, I was having a chat with my friend while eating, and suddenly the topic of "Okuribi" of Obon came up, and I managed to explain it using Google Translate. At nother lunch time, a student studying "Princess Kaguya" in a Japanese philosophy class at university shared her opinion. She cannot understand why Princess Kaguya, a member of the gods' clan, longs for the human world. Wouldn't it be better to live in God's world? What? Was Princess Kaguya a goddess? For Japanese people, the world of the moon is a different world from the world where people live. On the other hand, I learned at that time that the world above the celestial bodies seen from the West is a world of gods that is even more sublime than the Japanese feel. Is the perception of "another world" that is neither human nor god unique? I I wanted to talk more, but I couldn't because my English wasn't good enough.

海外旅行のたびに、英語で話すことに慣れてきたタイミングで帰国しなければならないのが、ちょっと悔しい。自分が困らない程度には英会話ができるつもりでいたけれど、8月の渡航では、レベルアップの必要性を痛感しました。
セルビアは親日国。ひとびとの日本文化への学びが半端ない。もちろん、日本のアニメや漫画はほとんどの人馴染みがあります。のみならず、彼らの宗教対立の歴史が背景にあるのでしょうか、日本人の宗教観への興味も高いようです。前回の滞在では、修道院のシスターが『HAGAKURE（葉隠）』で日本の精神性を学んでいました。今回は、食事中の雑談で、ひょんなことからお盆の「送り火」の話になり、Google翻訳に頼りながらなんとか説明。別の日には、大学で日本哲学を学んでいるという女性と「かぐや姫」の話になりました。「かぐや姫は神の一族なのに、なぜ人間界に憧れたのか理解できない。神の世界に居たほうがよっぽどいいのでは？」「あれっ？かぐや姫って神様だっけ？」日本人的には「月の世界＝異世界」と捉えていたけれど、西洋的思考では「天上界＝神の国」で、より崇高になるのか。異世界という中途半端な落としどころで納得できてしまう日本人。世界的に珍しい存在のかな。もっと突っ込んで話したかったけれど、英語力が不足していました。
ということで、英語力アップのために、今月より英文も書いています。うまく説明できるようになったら、日本人のゆるくてごちゃ混ぜ、いいとこ取りの宗教観は、彼らを失望させてまうかもしれませんが。まぁ、それはそれで。

Serbian Night is a Serbian restaurant open only on Saturdays. Private lunches on other days of the week are also available upon request.
This week, the JASS(Japan Association of Senior Service) stopped by for lunch before visiting the embassy. This is the second time for the event "Visit the Serbian Embassy and Enjoy Serbian Cuisine" sponsored by JASS University, which sold out in July.
The menu is traditional Serbian regional dishes and Serbian wines. Since the participants were elderly, the volume was reduced a little from the usual "Brunch & Lunch".

今週は、7月にキャンセル待ちで追加開催となった『セルビア大使館訪問、セルビア料理を楽しむ』で、日本セカンドライフ協会様が再訪されました。シニア向けというご相談により、通常の『がっつりブランチ＆ランチ』より若干ボリュームを抑え、セルビアの伝統的な郷土料理とセルビア産ワインなどをお召し上がりいただきました。

Time flies too fast. The harvest month has passed, but the temperature still exceeds 30 degrees every day. Year after year, I feel summer and winter nibble on autumn.
Travel restrictions have been eased, and many people are likely to travel during the holidays in September.
Belgrade's airport has been called Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport since 2006, in honor of the genius scientist. Tesla, who fought against Edison in the War of the Currents, died in the United States after an unfortunate later life, but left behind many inventions that lead to the present. One of Tesla's achievements is mentioned in the Hollywood movie I saw the other day, "The Bucket List" At the beginning, there was a quiz exchange scene with colleagues as an episode showing the intelligence of the auto mechanic played by Morgan Freeman. "Who invented the radio?""I don't know if you want who they think invented the radio... or the person who actually invented the radio.""Marconi, right?""Truth is a guy named Nikola Tesla......patented the basic idea for the radio in 1896."(The scene begins around 1:49.) I was drawn into the story at once with this line, but apart from this scene, there is nothing related to Serbia, not to mention Tesla. But I recommend this movie.

月日の経つのは早いもの。まんまるお月様の十五夜も過ぎました。それでも連日の30℃超え。年々、夏と冬が秋を侵食していると感じます。
渡航の規制緩和もはじまり、9月の連休は旅先にいらっしゃる方も多いのかな。
ベオグラードの空港は、2006年より天才科学者の名を冠してベオグラード・ニコラ・テスラ空港と呼ばれています。エジソンとの電力戦争を繰り広げたテスラは、晩年不遇のうちにアメリカで亡くなりましたが、今につながる多くの発明を遺しています。先日観た『最高の人生の見つけ方』というハリウッド映画でも、テスラの功績が取り上げられていました。冒頭、モーガン・フリーマン演じる自動車整備工の聡明さを現すエピソードひとつ、同僚とのクイズのシーンで「無線を発明したのは誰？」という問いの、「いや 発明者と言われている人か 本当の発明者か迷ってる」「（一般には発明者とされ、1909年にノーベル賞を受賞してる）マルコリーニではなく、本当はテスラだ。」という答えです（1:49頃からその場面がはじまります）。このセリフで一気に物語に引き込まれました。この場面以外にテスラはもとよりセルビアに関係することは出てきません。が、お勧めです。
